Second Film Opening Idea

Title - Dreamtown
Genre - Crime/Thriller

The scene opens with a very blurred establishing shot of a teenage girl cradling a child and crying. As the scene comes into focus I'm hoping to encourage the thought that she's the child's mum - a common stereotype - and the child is quietly speaking to her as she cries. The child is softly saying, "Where's mummy?" which slowly becomes louder and clearer so the audience can here what she's saying. The teenage girl doesn't respond and as the child becomes more frustrated she says louder, "When is Daddy coming home? Is he bringing Mummy?"
Whilst this is happening I'm hoping to build in some soft, non-diegetic sound to evoke empathy for the children who's parents have died.

Then there will be an exceptionally loud gunshot, all sound will stop and the screen will go black.
On the black screen we get the 'beeps' of a heart monitor and as each one goes across the scene they carry the credits but not the title.
As the beeps go on we start to get diegetic sounds coming in in the background, muffled talking, possibly machine sounds. This gets louder as we reach the end of the credits to a frenzy. At the climax the beeps stop and the line goes straight and we get one long continuous beep indicating that the character's heart has stopped.

Then we cut to a very bright white glare and we can see shapes moving in the background and foreground of the shot. The camera is on the ground and as it comes into focus we can see an operating table with people in white coats and mouth masks all moving in a frenzy around the bed. We see a defibrillator and a lot of shouting of medical terminology then a, "One, two, three," and the defibrillator is used on the patient who we still can't properly see.

The defibrillator cuts us into a really short flashback of the family all together laughing.

We cut back to the operating theatre but the camera is higher and closer to the patient. Another defibrillator hit.

Flashback of the girl watching the news reporting on a serial killer.

Back to the operating theatre and we can now see the patient is the teenage girl. Defibrillator.

Flashback to girl running through the woods.

Back in the operating theatre and the camera is directly above the girl's face in a close-up shot. She sits up bringing her face towards the camera and screams.

The screen goes back and we get the title coming up.

Possible locations:
A lot of these scenes could be filmed at home as they are scenes about a family.
The ones in the operating theatre could be shot in school on a white backdrop.
The running one in the woods could be shot in the woods near my house.

Strengths:
-Not many locations
-Would be powerful if done right
-Allows me to have creative credits

Weaknesses:
-Needs good actors
-Needs quite a young child which I will be able to do but they need to have some level of eating ability which could be quite difficult.
-Difficult to get the shots going up to the girl in operating theatre because, even though each one is still, the position of them means they will have to be handheld so it will be difficult to get them steady.
