Melissa
You have made a truly fantastic start to the course and it’s a pleasure teaching someone with such a love of film who can write so eloquently about it. Your film analysis is extremely detailed, thoughtful and well written and makes good use of terminology. You are currently working at a low Excellent level (A, just) and this is what you need to do to ensure that your work is comfortably A grade:
· Your textual analysis needs to make better use of semiotics. This means describing denotation and connotation. In other words what is shown and what is implied. You understand these concepts but don’t refer to them correctly. See me if you are unsure.
· Pay close attention to camera movement as well as shot types. If you’re unsure about these, ask me.
· Always highlight terminology in pink!
· Keep it up! You are on target and I’m looking forward to seeing you work on your film opening.
